Emer G. Majella’s fused glass works are built through a slow, highly layered kiln-firing process using assembled Bullseye glass, enamels and frit, with each piece undergoing multiple cycles of heating, cooling, and refinement to accumulate surface depth. This demanding technique requires a delicate balance between control and surrender, as glass wants to shift 6mm each time it is fired, risking its clarity and brilliance if pushed past its threshold. Light plays an active, transformative role in the finished work—deepening colors and revealing internal layers that shift according to the viewer’s environment and angle. Ultimately, these pieces exist somewhere between painting, sculpture,, inviting close inspection as subtle textures, trapped gestures, and layered transparencies gradually reveal themselves over time.
